If you live in Illinois, Milwaukee, Indiana and a
few surrounding states, you should be extremely careful in the next
few days. Temperatures are expected to drop well below
zero, making commuting from one place to another extremely
difficult. Driving in snowy below zero temperatures can be very
difficult and sometimes very dangerous. You should really think
twice before getting in your car.
Many schools in Chicago, for example, have
decided to cancel school due to the cold weather expected on Monday
and Tuesday. This is a good decision, but we all know that closed
schools does not mean that the kids will stay at home for these two
days. There will be kids on the streets playing in the snow, which
alone is a good enough reason to avoid getting in your car. If you
have to drive, you should really make sure that your vehicle is
fully prepared for driving in such weather conditions.
One of the first things you should have
done before the winter was to take your car and have it inspected
by a mechanic. Tell the mechanic to inspect the
thermostat, antifreeze level, heater, defroster and most
importantly the brakes. Another really important thing you should
check in order to make sure that your tires are ready for winter
driving is to make sure that they have adequate tread. If they are
worn out, it is best to replace them with snow tires. Snow tires
make a big difference when driving in winter conditions and
significantly improve the traction and handing of your vehicle. If
you have not already done so, it is a good idea to buy winter wiper
blades. They are much better than regular ones for snow and ice and
will get the job done right in the winter.
These tips will make sure that your car
is ready for winter, but they cannot guarantee that driving in
heavy snow will be like driving in summer. You have to
adjust your way of driving in order to be safe. Many of the snow
related accidents occur because the driver did not make the right
decisions. Driving extra slow and keeping a safe distance from
other cars will take you a long way in the winter.
At Van 3 Auto Transport we believe that
safety should come first. During the winter we equip all of our
trucks with all the necessary equipment in order to make sure that
they are ready for extreme winter conditions. If the
weather conditions are too extreme we choose to let our drivers
rest, in order to ensure their safety, as well as the safety of
everyone else on the road. Safety should be a priority for everyone
and together we can reduce car related deaths that occur in the
United States every year.
